Wow, I had flashbacks today. It's like it was 1979 all over again. People freaking out in iran and taking hostages and we have an incompetent idiot in the white house.
I was 16 years old at the time. I figured we would be going over there and kicking the hell out of someone and I didn't want to miss it.
I went over to the United States Marine Corps recruiting office in Conroe, Texas. They were pretty pumped when I told them I wanted to sign up and leave for boot camp immediately. But as I started filling out the paperwork, the Staff Sgt. asked how old I was. "16 Sir," I replied. "Go home Son, you're too young," he said. "My Mom will sign Sir, I'm ready to go," I said. "Boy, go home and come back when you are old enough," and that ended our conversation.
The next July, when I turned 17, I signed up on the Delayed Entry Program. By the time I was able to actually leave for boot camp, Ronald Reagan had been in office a while and things had settled down.
As it turns out, one of my Drill Instructors in boot camp had been on the failed helicopter mission into iran. He was one of the lucky ones that came out of it uninjured.
Anyway, I feel for the families of the British Nationals that are being held by those assclowns now. While any number of hostages is too big, it could have been a lot worse. Maybe the leadership in iran will come to their senses and let these people go very soon. It's not in their best interests to play stupid games at this point.
