Happy New Year Everyone!

Here's wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Movie Review - Cowboys and Aliens

Santa brought me Cowboys and Aliens for Christmas. I watched it a few days ago. I was a bit skeptical at first. It seemed like it might be, well, stupid. As it turns out it wasn't a bad movie. The whole concept of cowboys and aliens actually worked pretty good the way it was presented. The special effects were well done.

The weird thing for me was seeing Harrison Ford in a bad guy role. As it turns out he wasn't a bad guy, but it started out that way.

Olivia Wilde is Smoking HOT and having her in the movie made it that much better.

Anyway, the premise of the movie is that aliens are trying to get rid of humans so that they can take over our world. These cowboys (and some Indians) are forced to fight the aliens with late 1800's technology.

It's worth a watch if you have nothing better to do. I'd give it about 3.5 stars out of 5.

Game Camera Pics From Last Night...

Deer aren't the most exciting critters we have around here, but it's kind of cool to see them anyway. These girls were eating the corn I put out for them. I think they were out there at about 11:30pm. They look nice and healthy.

I'm gonna have to try to bait in a bobcat or some coyotes. Maybe a dead squirrel will bring them in...

Are you prepping yet?

Since I started this blog in January 2009 I have occasionally made mention that we should be serious about the upcoming meltdown in our Country. Almost every day now some "expert" predicts that we are headed for something major, and soon.

If you look at all of the chaos around the world it's hard to imagine that we can remain insulated from it forever. One day soon some group will decide to take their anger to the next level and it will get ugly from there. Don't take my word for it, watch or read the news.

Even the police know it's coming. Why do you think they are stocking up on automatic weapons and urban tanks? What police department in this Country really needs that kind of firepower to deal with their day to day activities? They don't. Our government is arming them with equipment comparable to what our military has. They know something is coming. The worst part for me is, I think many of these police departments are looking forward to using their fancy new gear against civilians. In my life I have known a bunch of police officers. Most of them have been great guys who are doing a job that not a lot of people are able to do. I have also known cops who are on some kind of weird power trip. They long for a chance to crack some body's head open. Can you imagine that guy with a tank and a few M4 carbines? Or how about a semi auto grenade launcher? You get the picture, right?

With this in mind, have you done anything to prepare? Do you have a little food and water stocked away? Have you gotten a bug out bag ready to go? Have you analyzed your skills and identified areas you might want to brush up on?

Believe me, I don't want to think about shit hitting the fan either. But you know, I have people that are depending on me to keep them safe. I can't do that without being prepared. We don't have near the food and water saved up that I would like. It isn't cheap or easy and we don't have unlimited storage space. We do what we an though.

Something to keep in mind on food storage, stock up on what you eat now. Can you imagine what would happen to your digestive system if you suddenly went to a beans and rice diet when it's not normally in your diet? Suddenly having an intestinal crisis in the middle of a social meltdown could get ugly. Use your head when buying goods to stock away.

We started out by buying 3 or 4 extra cans of food every time we went to the grocery store. Remember to rotate and use the oldest items first. Canned food will last a long time, but not forever. By starting out small you can get a little jump start without spending a ton of money at once.

Don't forget water. We save gallon milk jugs and fill them up. I also have a couple of bigger containers filled up and stashed away. There are some things to keep in mind when storing water, doing a Google search on the subject will give you more information than you can read in a month.

I try to pick up a box of ammo every time I go to Walmart. It might be shotgun shells, .22 shells or some kind of pistol ammo. In my opinion, ammo is something you can never have too much of. I try to rotate it to a certain degree. When I go to the range I try to grab the oldest stuff I have easy access to and take it. Rifle ammo I try to buy in bulk online. I learned the hard way not to buy 7.62x39 at Bass Pro. I refuse to pay $1.00 per round. Cabela's runs the 7.62x39 in their ad on a regular basis. You can still get it cheaper online if you buy it in bulk. Every once in a while you can find a deal at a gun show. The key to gun show buying though, is to know exactly what you are looking for and exactly what it would cost everywhere else.

Talking about guns, there are a million websites out there that will give you a million different perspectives on what gun you should have for a SHTF situation. I'm not going to presume to know enough about your situation to tell you what you should have. Guns are a personal thing any way. You don't want a gun you aren't comfortable with. And the guns I consider personal protection tools are different than what I would use to hunt up dinner. I'm not going to hunt a squirrel with an 18" barreled shotgun with buck shot in it and I'm not going to protect my home with a .22. Two different missions. But that brings up a good point. There really isn't a do all, single solution kind of a gun. A shotgun comes close, but unforeseen circumstances may make you wish you had other options.

If I were going to make a suggestion on firearm choice it would be this, you need a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. Which ones are going to be up to your needs and comfort level. Do your research. Go shooting. Take a class.

Well, I've wasted enough of your time with this. If you ahve any specific questions, email me. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but I will tell you what I know from experience and then I will point you to people who know more than me for the rest...

Another record for obama...

Today obama played his 90th game of golf. That is a record for a sitting president. He beat the old record set in 2010... by obama. That beat the previous record set in 2009... by obama.

That is truly messed up...

Did Jon Huntsman really say that?

On CBS's "The Early Show", Jon Huntsman said, "They pick corn in Iowa. They pick presidents in New Hampshire."

Seriously? What can this guy be thinking? Why would a person running for president speak with so much disrespect about an entire State? Especially a State that could make a big difference in the rest of his campaign?

Oh well, it's not like he has any kind of a shot to begin with.

Like I've said in the past, he would make one hell of a used car salesman.

Hey Jon, after you finish alienating the Country one State at a time, give me a shout. I know a guy that owns a lot. Maybe he will put you to work.

Tweeting the word 'drill' could mean your Twitter account is read by U.S. government spies

Fake profiles? Wow! They should be able to uncover ALL KINDS of secret information with that tactic. I'm going to use every trigger word they advertised in one paragraph and see what kind of traffic this post gets.

I think obama is probably an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT that is infecting our government with a new STRAIN of idiot VIRUS. It probably won't directly cause any DEATHS but it could lead to the COLLAPSE of our financial system. The OUTBREAK is being disguised as a RECOVERY. When we get rid of obama in 2012, maybe we can DRILL oil on our own soil. One last thing, someone should tell obama that if he plans to have further HUMAN TO ANIMAL relations, he should use a TROJAN.

And here are few bonus words for good measure.

I would KILL for a Snickers right now. But MURDER over a candy bar would be stupid. And even if I did, the GOVERNMENT would try to ASSASSINATE my character and send me to GITMO with all the TERRORISTS.

And one last thing, FUCK janet napolitano and obama...

By Rob Waugh - Mail Online

The department of homeland security makes fake Twitter and Facebook profiles for the specific purpose of scanning the networks for 'sensitive' words - and tracking people who use them.

Simply using a word or phrase from the dhs's 'watch' list could mean that spies from the government read your posts, investigate your account, and attempt to identify you from it, acccording to an online privacy group.

The words which attract attention range from ones seemingly related to diseases or bioweapons such as 'human to animal' and 'outbreak' to other, more obscure words such as 'drill' and 'strain'.

The dhs also watches for words such as 'illegal immigrant'.

The dhs outlined plans to scans blogs, Twitter and Facebook for words such as 'illegal immigrant', 'outbreak', 'drill', 'strain', 'virus', 'recovery', 'deaths', 'collapse', 'human to animal' and 'trojan', according to an 'impact asssessment' document filed by the agency.

When its search tools net an account using the phrases, they record personal information.

It's still not clear how this information is used - and who the dhs shares it with.

An online privacy group, the Electronic Privacy Information Centre has requested information on the dhs's scans, which it says the agency announced in February.

The privacy group has requested information on the dhs, and contractors it claims are working with the agency to scan social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

The group says that the government has used scans of social media before to analyse specific events - such as the 2010 BP oil spill - but this general 'watching' of social media using fake profiles is new.

'The initiatives were designed to gather information from 'online forums, blogs, public websites, and message boards,' to store and analyze the information gathered, and then to 'disseminate relevant and appropriate de-identified information to federal, state, local, and foreign governments and private sector partners,' the group said in a court filing.

The group claims that a request under the Freedom of Information Act to access the documentation has gone unanswered.

More on the hog invasion...

Remember I told you yesterday about my friend Matt seeing a wild hog in his yard? Remember I told you he regretted not blasting it? He commented and said the same thing. He also said he would shoot the next one he saw? Well, my friend Matt is a man of his word...

I haven't talked to him yet, but he sent me this picture. It looks like the AR-15 did a number on that piggie. I'll have to ask him if that flashlight helped at all :)...

Maybe I'll get a bacon sammich out of this...

Thinking about survival skills...

Back in October, I wrote a little about the most basic of survival skills. Since then I have thought a lot about what various skills I would like to enhance. I have downloaded and read several things on the flora in my general area. I want to know what plants are good and which are bad. I want to know if any of them have a medicinal purpose. I have compiled all of this information with the other things already on my thumb drive.

If you haven't started one of these yet, you should think about it. It's nice to have the documents you will need all in one place. If you plan to get information on your local plants, be sure to get good color pictures. I have found that there are lots of things in my general area with the same basic description, but are very different from one another. In a survival situation, getting sick from a misidentified poisonous plant might endanger your entire party.

Another skill I have been thinking a lot about is archery. I've never been a bow hunter and have very limited experience in the area. Both of my Girls have bows and are actually decent shots with them. Normally bow hunting isn't something that would interest me, but as I think more about the survival of my family in a bad situation, the more it seems to make sense. There are times when a gun shot would attract unwanted attention, and my pellet rifle just wouldn't have the knock down power needed. That's where a bow would come in handy.

One other skill that I think Joe Texan and I may figure out together is reloading. I am fortunate that I have a good friend, Big Mullet, who has been reloading for a long time. He can give us pointers on the right gear and what newbie mistakes we can avoid. I would like to be able to reload shotgun shells first and then maybe into pistol and rifle ammo.

I guess the point to this post is that we should all be thinking about the huge amount of skills that would help us to better survive a bad situation. There are so many things I would like to know, but I don't have an unlimited amount of time. Deciding on what will give me the best advantage is the key.

Comment with what skills you have decided to work on...

Here are some places to download documents on prepping and survival...

There are about a million other places to download stuff from. You may have to filter through and disregard some of the weird stuff and just get the things that will help you in your situation. The key is to have as much knowledge available as possible.

What a difference 3 years makes...

2008

2011
The White House plans to ask Congress for an increase in the debt limit before the end of the week, according to a senior Treasury Department official.

The debt limit is projected to fall within $100 billion of the current cap by December 30. President Barack Obama is expected to ask for additional borrowing authority to increase the limit by $1.2 trillion.

Under the new budget, Congress can only vote to block the debt-ceiling extension with a disapproval resolution. Lawmakers have 15 days within receiving the request to vote down the debt limit increase.

The debt limit currently stands at $15.194 trillion and would increase to $16.394 trillion with the request.

So let me get this straight, obama said George W. Bush was unpatriotic because he added $4 Trillion dollars to the debt in 8 years.

obama has added more than $6 TRILLION dollars to the debt in 3 years. That makes him the most unpatriotic son of a bitch ever in the history of this Country.

I'm not saying that George W. adding 4 TRILLION to the debt is excusable. It's not. But I'm sick and tired of obama getting a pass on being the biggest fucking hypocrite on the planet.

Not sure how to describe this, but it's worth a look...

Christmas present for me...

My Bride got me a game camera for Christmas. I got it all set up today and put it out in the yard. I'm hoping tomorrow I can post some pictures of the critters we have running around out here.

It probably won't be as exciting as the wild hog my friend Matt spotted in his yard today, but it will be interesting to see the deer and other little animals running around.

If I don't get anything tonight. I'll spread out a bit of corn tomorrow.
